What is Gen Z wearing now?
For Gen Z, sustainability isn’t just a trend but a fundamental criterion influencing their purchasing decisions. They embrace oversized loungewear, statement accessories, techwear, minimalist looks, athleisure, DIY projects, and streetwear influences. Teeny tiny glasses are now in style according to Gen Z, and this cat-eye pair is super hot for the summer. For this generation, keeping up with what everyone else is doing (or being ahead of the curve) matters.
Gen Z has a preference for loose clothes, vibrant patterns, and an affection for retro and reconstituted fashion. There’s something to be said about the tongue-in-cheek factor of cows, especially when it comes to accessories, and all of the Gen Z editors in the office agree that calf-hair pumps and loafers are a must. Techwear combines innovative design with functional style, perfect for Gen Zs who appreciate futuristic fashion. While millennials grew up in denim that got progressively more fitted and cropped, as Gen Z came of age, the pendulum swung in the opposite direction, favoring longer, looser shapes, from baggy jeans to cargo pants.
No more typing and searching for Gen Z fashion trends on several online stores only to get a few search results. Embrace the essence of Gen Z style where every outfit tells a story and every choice makes a statement. With distinct preferences from millennials, Gen Zs embrace diverse styles from streetwear to gender-fluid fashion. As the first group to grow up with full knowledge of climate change and environmental problems, Gen Z cares about sustainability.
According to Danielle O’Connell and Alix Gropper, the stylist duo who go by Danielle & Alix and whose clients have included Alix Earle and Lindsay Lohan, Gen Z clients’ biggest ask is to add vintage pieces into their looks. The latest Gen Z fashion trends include sustainable choices, gender-fluid styles, and a revival of Y2K aesthetics.
What is the 2025 fashion trend?
Pastels always trend this time of year, but I can’t recall a recent season when powder pink felt this fresh. The ultimate interpretation of sportif fashion arrived at Wales Bonner, via effortlessly styled mainline pieces and new pieces from her ongoing collaboration with Adidas Originals. Pared-back styling made models feel grown-up at Khaite and Brandon Maxwell; Alaïa employed extreme cutouts for some sex appeal; weirdo layering embraced the female gaze at Miu Miu, Valentino, and Chanel. But in 2024, it dominated our feeds, splashed across everything from interiors to clothing, enjoying a major resurgence in visibility.
We can expect aquatic influences in 2025 that go beyond the classic nautical marine aesthetic, instead the inspiration will take us deep into the world of water and everything that exists within it. Below, dive into my favorite spring fashion trends of 2025 that’ll keep you well ahead of the curve. Fashion isn’t finished with barn-jacket beige and for spring the hue appeared in scouting and military-inspired looks. Soft pastels brought romance and airiness to the runways, but the color palette didn’t feel overly feminine.
The autumnal pattern was already a favorite last fall, and it seems like fashion wasn’t done with it for spring, rendering it in softer colors and shapes. While I do embrace trends where it makes sense, I always try to stay true to my own fashion point of view. One-leg pants, flowy skirts, and one-shoulder tops are all fantastic examples of how asymmetry can elevate fashion pieces to new heights, making garments feel both fresh and contemporary. Even minimalists will be drawn to this season’s wispy pinks and pale yellows, which look great against wardrobe neutrals like grey, navy, and even chocolate brown suede.
With the first major spring 2025 fashion trends hitting the runways and streets, there’s plenty of fresh inspiration to be found right now. For summer 2025, turquoise is forecasted to increase by +8% compared to the previous summer, while mermaid-inspired elements like sequins and fishtail maxi dresses are expected to grow by +20% and +17%, respectively. However, Gen Z has really taken this style and made it their own from embracing the Samba and Gazelle sneakers, to incorporating the sports bra into high-fashion looks, to the return of the baseball cap, to bringing back all things windbreaker. Many of these 2025 fashion trends may already be in your wardrobe, so have some fun playing with what you already own.
Sugary color palettes are on the menu for 2025, and Sandy Liang’s playfully girlish approach stands as the blueprint here. Of course, I also picked up on some more specific pieces, colors, and vibes, should you want a clearer road map for the year ahead. Last September’s spring 2025 runways introduced an abundance of luxurious textures, offering a visually intriguing way to tackle otherwise standard ensembles. During the same time period, Leopard and tiger prints, in particular, will shine and is forecasted to surge by +138% and +16%, respectively.
If you enjoyed this fashion post, you might also like my posts on basic outfit ideas, how to wear blazers, comfortable airport outfit ideas, and how to style wide-leg jeans. The whisper-soft shade graced too many spring catwalks to count and while most outfits leaned feminine, they balanced the color’s usual associations with some bite. Strapless dresses made a striking comeback on the Spring Summer 2025 runways, blending minimalist charm with bold new textures. According to data from Heuritech, the popularity of Thong Sandals is set to soar by an impressive +25% (April-June) During the same period and even more striking is the projected +31% increase in rubber thong sandals, mostly driven by the edgy consumer.
The idea here isn’t to do away with the clean line entirely, but rather play up those refrained sensibilities with novelty and craft. Hot pants have emerged as the new alternative to the mini skirt, styled either with bare legs or paired with stockings. And if you really want to take it a step further and combine a few Gen Z fashion trends, you could pair either of those combos with a great mini skirt. Think vibrant tiles from a pool, tropical blues that evoke the soothing depths of the ocean, the caudal fin, the shells of aquatic animals, and mermaid-inspired dresses.
So while you’re welcome to wear petal pink however you wish, the real trend this season is juxtaposition mixing the airy with the hard-edged. Boho style is officially here to stay, as is classic American prep (and a close cousin influenced by coastal living). And petal pink and pistachio green are shaping up to be the colors of the year, according to labels like Tory Burch, Tibi, and Simone Rocha. Animal prints are set to become the season’s rising stars, with a projected +92% increase from July to September.
For July to September, the shape is forecasted to have a +14% increase particularly embraced by trendy Gen Z consumers. This fashion style is expected to see a +7% increase in popularity from April to June 2025 compared to previous year. On the runway for this season it was featured in fabrics like cotton, knit, sequin, denim, and leather.
What is the next big thing in fashion?
The next big thing in fashion is a dynamic mix of sustainability, technology, inclusivity, and nostalgia. Chalk it up to algorithmic fatigue, the post-quiet luxury pendulum swing or simply attribute it to designers shaking up formerly staid houses. During the same period, the asymmetric neck t-shirt is projected to grow by +10%, primarily driven by mainstream consumers, indicating great commercial potential. Whether through eco-friendly practices, virtual fashion, or gender-fluid designs, the future of fashion is about more than just aesthetics it’s about creating a better world.
Online shopping, mobile commerce, and social media influence will remain prominent, and technology will continue to provide convenience and personalized experiences for customers. As these trends continue to evolve, they will redefine the fashion industry, making it more diverse, innovative, and responsible. In Spring 2025 (April-June), asymmetric neck woven tops are estimated to increase by +6%, with significant adoption mainly among Gen Z and Millennials. During the same period and even more striking is the projected +31% increase in rubber thong sandals, mostly driven by the edgy consumer.
During Spring 2025 (April-June), strapless dresses will increase with +15% and cater to the edgy and trendy consumer with effortless grace. The incoming luxury fashion vibe shift portends a prioritisation of craft, quality, and timelessness, but above all, individuality.
