Revlon Hair Dryer Brush: Pros and Cons

The Revlon One-Step hair dryer and volumiser is popular because it dries and styles in one step, but it has downsides. A Tech Advisor review found it styled brilliantly, with good results and no snagging, but also flagged heat, hair damage and ethical points.

The disadvantages

• Very hot on high: the reviewer found the high setting uncomfortably hot on the scalp, and the medium setting was enough for drying and styling.
• Possible hair damage: it pulls damp hair taut and applies heat, so experts advise drying hair as fully as possible first and avoiding overuse.
• Not for every hair type: a colleague with very long, thick hair had less success.
• Animal-derived bristles: the boar bristles mean it is not cruelty-free or suitable for vegans.
• Look-alikes: many copies are sold, so check you are buying a genuine product.

The advantages

At about 470g it is lighter than a standard hair dryer, it has a 2.5-metre swivel cord and it was quick to use.

Using it more safely

Start with towel-dried or partly dried hair, use the lowest heat that works, add a heat protectant and give your hair days off from heat styling.
