Cartier’s fragrances vary by line, so there is no single Cartier smell. The Paris-based jeweller, founded in 1847 and now part of Richemont, launched Must de Cartier and Santos de Cartier in 1981, and a first Panthère de Cartier perfume in 1987.
La Panthère (2014)
The best-known modern Cartier women’s fragrance is La Panthère, created by perfumer Mathilde Laurent. It is classed as a chypre floral. Its heart is built around gardenia and other florals, with a base of oakmoss and white musks.
The in-house perfumer
Mathilde Laurent joined Cartier in 2005 and became its in-house perfumer in 2006, according to Wikipedia. Her Cartier creations include Baiser Volé (2006), L’Heure Perdue (2015) and the six-fragrance Les Heures Voyageuses oud collection (2016).
How to choose
Because Cartier has several distinct fragrance lines, sample more than one. Ask for a strip, then wear it on your skin for a few hours before deciding.
Ranges and notes can change, so check the current details with Cartier or an authorised retailer.
